James’s practice focuses on employment and education issues. He represents and advises colleges and universities, school districts, and government entities in litigation, governance, and employment matters, including Constitutional claims, state whistleblower claims, unemployment proceedings, and First Amendment, due process, and Title IX matters.
He works with employers in both the public and private sectors on matters including employee policies, employment discrimination, retaliation, the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and wage and hour issues.
James began his career as a judicial law clerk for Magistrate Judge H. Brent Brennenstuhl in the United States District Court, Western District of Kentucky, and most recently for Chief District Judge Greg N. Stivers. During law school, he served as a law clerk for a family and criminal defense firm in Louisville, as an extern for the Adult Trial Division of the Louisville Metro Public Defender’s Office, and as a law clerk in the Appellate Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Kentucky.
