In Memoriam: Ann D. Sturgill

Sturgill Turner regrets to report the loss of retired member attorney Ann Dubuisson Sturgill, who passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, in Lexington.

Ann joined Sturgill Turner in 1976, and practiced in equine law and real estate, environmental law, and estate planning alongside her husband and firm co-founder, Don S. Sturgill. She earned her J.D. from the University of Kentucky and served as law clerk to Hon. Joe Lee, US Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Kentucky prior to joining the firm. She was an active member of the Kentucky Bar Association and Fayette County Bar Association (FCBA), chairing the Equine Law Section for both.

Ann was well known across the Commonwealth for her excellence as a lawyer, but also importantly, for her leadership and encouragement of women attorneys in Fayette County and the Commonwealth. Ann was one of the first women to be named partner in a Lexington law firm and was instrumental in the founding and growth of the FCBA Women Lawyers Association section, which is committed to advancing women in the legal profession and community at large, supporting the legal rights of all women, and promoting equal opportunity for all. She was active for years with the YWCA and Chrysalis House, and enjoyed lifelong friendships with women professionals in other fields.

Hers is a true loss for our firm and for the Kentucky legal community. Visitation will be held Friday, December 20, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd. in Lexington. Please read her obituary and further information about arrangements below.
